Joe's Weekly Video Game Rants – 10

This week's rant is about Back to the Future episode 1.

When I first heard about this game, obviously I was concerned. As more and more video's came out, the future looked bright for this game. I think they really focused a lot on the voice actor, which really shows when you start the game up The real problem with Back to the Future in general is the whole time travelling thing. The longer a time travelling story goes on, the more ridiculous it becomes.

So let's talk about the good things about this game. Voice actors... So far that's it. I think it's great that they got Christopher Lloyd for the Doc. Even that though won't save this game. I already said that the story line was broken, but then again what time traveling story isn't. As far as graphics, I'll let them have a pass on that. Point and clicks usually don't need the craziest of graphics. I think that style of artwork actually suits those type of games.

Surprisingly that's where all the good stuff ends. The camera is so freaking annoying at like 90% of the game, it makes you want to stop playing 15 minutes in. The controls really aren't much better. I think they tell you to use right click to run, when I believe it's actually shift. I guess it could be both but nothing was happening when I held down that right button. So far the story line really isn't too interesting. Hopefully episode 2 picks up the pace and starts getting more exciting. Also, is there a way to skip cut scenes or speed up the dialogue? Sometimes when you accidently press the same question thing they give you, you have to sit through all that nonsense and some long speech you've already heard cause you already tried that option. Also, what's up with some of those dopey facial expression the characters give when listening to someone or talking to someone.

It's hard to review something without giving away spoilers and such. I won't actually give this game a full review because I'm not done with the game yet. I bought all the episodes but just recently finished episode 1. Who knows when I'll have time for all the other episodes. For right now though, I guess I would have to give it a 2 based on what I've seen so far. Honestly I've been having much more fun with Battlefield Play4Free. Something new from EA, which is freaking awesome. Who knows though, the whole game might turn around story line wise and be something incredible. The main things holding this game back is the horrendous camera. I guess the studio's first mistake was thinking that they could create a game that would actually satisfy the fans of the movie.
